High-pressure gate valve: a highly sealed fluid control solution under harsh working conditions

High-pressure gate valve is a valve specially designed for high-pressure working conditions. Its structure and performance make it widely used in petroleum, chemical, electric power, metallurgy and other industrial fields. The following is a detailed analysis of its structural characteristics and advantages: 

 I. Structural characteristics of high-pressure gate valves 

 1. Valve body structure 

 High-strength materials: The overall forging process (such as ASTM A105, A182 F22 and other alloy steels is usually used to ensure that the valve body does not deform under high pressure. 

 Compact design: The flow channel is straight-through, which reduces the flow resistance of the medium and avoids the impact of turbulence on the valve body. 

 High pressure level: The design meets the ASME B16.34 standard, and the common pressure level is Class 600 to Class 2500 (PN100 to PN420). 

 2. Valve cover and sealing structure 

 Pressure self-tight sealing valve cover: Use the medium pressure to push the sealing element between the valve cover and the valve body (such as flexible graphite ring or metal gasket). The higher the pressure, the stronger the sealability. 

 Flange or welding connection: Under high-pressure conditions, butt welding connection (BW) or flange sealing welding is mostly used to avoid leakage risk. 

 3. Valve stem design 

 Rising Stem: It is convenient to intuitively judge the opening of the valve, and the surface of the valve stem is coated with hard chromium or nitriding to improve wear resistance and corrosion resistance. 

 Anti-ejection design: T-shaped head or inverted seal structure is set at the bottom of the valve stem to prevent the valve stem from being pushed out by the medium under high pressure. 

 4. Type of gate 

 Rigid double gate: It adopts a parallel double gate structure, which is pre-tightened by spring or wedge, and automatically compensates for the wear of the sealing surface under high pressure to ensure a tight fit. 

 Wedge-shaped single gate: suitable for high-temperature and high-pressure conditions with clean media, self-locking and sealing through a wedge-shaped angle. 

 5. Strengthening the sealing surface 

 Cemented carbide surfacing: The sealing surface is sprayed with Stellite alloy or tungsten carbide (WC) to improve erosion resistance and abrasion resistance. 

 Metal-to-metal seal: Adapt to high-pressure and high-temperature environment, flexible graphite gasket auxiliary seal can be added to some working conditions. 

 6. Driving mode 

 Gear box or hydraulic actuator: The high-pressure valve has a large operating torque, and is often equipped with a deceleration gearbox, hydraulic cylinder or electric actuator to ensure smooth opening and closing. 

 II. Core advantages of high-pressure gate valve 

 1. Excellent sealing performance 

 Through the dual action of preloading force and medium pressure, the sealing surface is closer under high pressure. 

 The hard sealed structure is resistant to the erosion of granular media, and it is not easy to fail in long-term use. 

 2. High structural strength and reliability 

 The forged valve body and thickened wall design can withstand extreme pressure. 

 The valve stem and the gate are integrated forged or high-strength connection to avoid the risk of fracture. 

 3. Low current resistance and energy saving 

 When fully open, the flow channel is consistent with the diameter of the pipeline, and the pressure drop is extremely small, which is suitable for pipeline systems that require high flow and low energy consumption. 

 4. Long life and easy maintenance 

 The wear-resistant design of the sealing surface extends the service life, and some valves can reach tens of thousands of opening and closing cycles. 

 5. Wide adaptability to working conditions 

 It can handle high temperatures (such as the main steam valve of the power station up to 550℃), high pressure, corrosive media (suitable for two-way sealing needs, especially for switch control with fewer throttling conditions. 

 6. Security compliance 

 It conforms to API 600, ASME B16.34 and other international standards, and has passed the fire safety certification (API 607/6FA), which is suitable for flammable and explosive environments. 

 III. Typical application scenarios 

 Oil and gas: wellhead device, long pipeline cut-off valve. 

 Chemical industry: reaction kettle high-pressure medium control, synthetic ammonia device. 

 Electricity: boiler water supply system, main steam pipeline. 

 Nuclear power: main coolant system isolation valve (nuclear-grade certification required). 

 IV. Precautions for selection 

 Select the sealing surface material according to the characteristics of the medium (for example, carbide is suitable for particle-containing media). 

 Forged valve body is preferred under high-pressure working conditions to avoid the risk of casting defects. 

 Considering the impact of thermal expansion, the valve body and pipeline compensation measures need to be reserved for high-temperature working conditions. 

 Through targeted design and material optimization, the high-pressure gate valve achieves high sealing, high reliability and long life under harsh working conditions. It is a key component of the high-pressure fluid control system.
